Description

This is a list of herbaceous and arboreous plants found at the Komaba Campus of University of Tokyo, Japan, and recorded between 2017 to 2019. All occurrences were recorded as voucher specimens, which were deposited at the Komaba Museum, University of Tokyo, Meguro City, Japan (KMUT). In total, 324 specimens were registered, identified under 99 families and 236 genera. The Komaba Campus of University of Tokyo has an area of about 25.4ha and is located at a highly urbanized area in Tokyo Metropolis (Japan), under a temporal zone (35.6N, 139.7E). Although almost all areas of the campus are covered by artificial constructions (e.g., research buildings, road, and athletic field), small green spaces, with an approximate area of 4.5ha, are present. Although many non-native species are observed in this area and peripheral areas due to urbanization, some new insect species had been recorded in this campus in recent year. Therefore, some surveys of fauna were performed on this campus in the last decade, but the only flora survey available for the area was performed 35 years ago. It is suggested that the area and position of green space in the Komaba campus has changed over these 35 years, and hence an updated survey is made necessary.

The flora survey of the Komaba campus was already performed 35 years ago by the Meguro Ward Office (Tokyo, Japan), but an updated survey is made necessary. Herbaceous and arboreous plants with reproductive structures were collected over the time period of three years (i.e., April 2017 to May 2019). Sampling was exhaustive and performed once a month during daytime, virtually covering all vegetation area on campus. Excluding some plants (e.g., Cirsium vulgare (Savi) Ten. and Alcea rosea L.) which are particularly large, the whole plant body was collected. For fern specimens, rhizomes and fertile leaves were collected to allow identification. Collected samples were immediately mounted as vouchers and preserved at room temperature using humidity absorbing sheets. Vouchers’ deposit number were issued by KMUT.

Etendue de l'étude Flora surveys were performed in the Komaba Campus of University of Tokyo on April 2017 – March 2019, and specimens were preserved and registered at the Komaba Museum, University of Tokyo, Meguro City, Japan (KMUT).
Contrôle qualité Plant species were identified according to The Handbook of Common Grasses (Koba et al. 2011), The Handbook of Sedges in Japan (Katsuyama & Kitagawa 2014), The Handbook of Ferns and Fern allies (Kitagawa 2007), Wild Flowers of Japan, Plains, Seaside and Hills (Hayashi et al. 2013, 2017), Wild Flowers of Japan, Mountainside (Kadota et al. 2013, 2015), The Standard of Ferns and Lycophytes in Japan (Ebihara 2016), and Leaves of Tree (Hayashi 2014, 2018). The classification system follows APG IV (Chase et al. 2016), and family, genus and Japanese names were confirmed by Ylist (Yonekura & Kadota, http://ylist.info/).
