Would you like to take the Ebe Nielsen Challenge?

To date, the GBIF has accumulated more than 500 million pieces of biodiversity information, including distribution information, and has made various efforts to make effective use of this information. The Ebbe Nielsen Prize was established to recognise researchers who have made significant contributions to the field of biodiversity informatics, and this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Ebbe Nielsen Prize.

In order to improve the relevance of the biodiversity information stored in the GBIF and to promote further use and development of research, the The Ebbe Nielsen Challenge has been established to replace the Ebbe Nielsen Prize. The winners are selected in a multi-candidate contest format, proposing how GBIF data can be used for research and policy on biodiversity. Various suggestions could be made, such as creating new biodiversity-related websites, developing mobile phone apps, proposing analytical methods and visualising data. Unique in that they are examples of utilisation, rather than a cohesive research paper as in the past. The first prize is €20,000 and the second €5,000. It is also an opportunity to use biodiversity information to promote its achievements internationally. Please apply with great enthusiasm.
