About this website
The primary purpose of GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility) is to create and maintain an information system that makes biodiversity information freely accessible to anyone, anytime, anywhere. Since 2001, GBIF has been operating with financial support from various countries and through the voluntary efforts of national and international biodiversity projects and institutions from around the world. Now, Japan Initiative for Biodiversity Information (formerly GBIF Japan Node) serves as the contact point to data publishment via GBIF.
